Starbucks: Day One

The name comes from the story 'Moby Dick'; Starbucks was the name of the first mate on board the ship that went after the giant whale. The logo of Starbucks Coffee is actually a 16th century Norse depiction of a Siren; a mermaid-like creature with two tails that lures sailors to their watery deaths with their haunting melodies.

And you thought that I'd have at least learned something more about coffee than this historical bullshit right. Haha!

Anyway, today was my first day of work. I haven't gone for barista training at Starbucks HQ, so today was hands-on training. It was like one huge chunk of coffee-brewing-cum-cafe-cleaning-cum-other-stuff related knowledge crammed into my head in a few hours. My previous experience from working in Coffee Bean helped, so all's well; I didn't screw up. :)

I'm rather impressed with Starbucks; I learned more here than at Coffee Bean. Somehow I feel that their commitment to coffee is higher than Coffee Bean's. Starbucks actually has coffee-tasting sessions, and you learn all about the coffee; what kind of coffee it is, how it tastes, what food it goes with, what ways it can be prepared etc. They have a whole manual just explaining coffees and teas.

All you pro-Coffee Bean people don't come here and flame me okay. I seem to have a high affinity for flamers. Oh well.

A 30% discount on all Starbucks F&B for all my friends. Now's the time to come find me, even if you usually don't. Haha, just kidding!
